Videocon Telecom to give 750MB of free data for two months, only for non-data users

Videocon Telecom has announced that it will offer a free 750 MB of internet data to its users who do not use internet. The reason behind doing so is to extend Indian Prime Minister’s Digital India Campaign and to educate and encourage Indian customers to use internet which will upgrade their life. This initiative is not only limited to offering free data but also Videocon has started a free helpline and provides a demonstration to users, at ‘Videocon Connect’ retail outlets.

This free 750 MB data will last for 2 months and in total the company plans to give away 1,500 TeraByte of free data to its users. To get this service users are required to give a missed call on Videocon’s helpline number and after that according to user’s eligibility they will get a confirmation call from Videocon’s helpline informing about the service subscription and availability.

Before starting this service Videocon conducted a study in India which shows over 86% of non-data users have handsets that supports data connectivity but do not intend to use data services and the two main reasons of this are:

    • Inadequate knowledge of Internet.
    • High data cost.

To help such users, Videocon Telecom has set up demonstration centers at ‘Videocon Connect’ retail outlets.

India boasts one of the highest mobile penetration in the world and contributes to over 14% of the world’s mobile users, and the best and fastest way to ensure data penetration is thru this medium, I am sure that if all telecom and related companies take similar initiates, it is not long before that the PMs vision shall become reality. ” Said, Arvind Bali, The Director and CEO of Videocon Telecommunication LTD.
