Celkon and Intex to be joining as partners for Google’s Android One Project

Android One is a new program revealed at Google I/O conference last month. This program is an initiative for making cheap but innovative and powerful devices. So, Google have made several partners for manufacturing these Android One project phones. There are three partners in this program viz Karbonn, Micromax and Spice. And now Google have planned two more partners from Indian Market, so they have chosen Celkon and Intex.

Although Celkon have agreed to this offer but Intex has not yet confirmed about making it up with Google for this project. Celkon's Executive Director, Mr. Murali said to the Economics Times that the company will be releasing Android One Devices this year in October. He even stated, the phones which will be made under the Android One program will be about 25% cheaper than the current Celkon phones.

As per the Android One project, the smartphone makers will get hardware reference model to make high quality smartphones below the 100$ price. All the devices under this project will have the latest Android OS and will be standardised versions of Android to get the updates faster.

That true, Celkon and Intex are all set to join the new project but i guess you are missing one more. Even HTC is planning to join hands with Google to create Android One devices, as they have seen some decreasing market share these days. As Chia-Lin Chang - CFO and President of Global Sales of HTC, said in an interview.

On the other hand, Micromax's first Android One project phone will have a 4.5 inch display, FM Radio, Dual-sim and will be running a latest version of Android. Google have recently announced that they will be spending over 100 crore on advertising and marketing of Android One project with its partners.
