    Lava Iris Pro 20 Review

Lava is a fast emerging company with diverse segment in smartphone. Recently Lava has launched many impressive smartphones to cope in the market competition and also it has conquered the heart of many around the globe. Lava has already stunned the world along with Xolo Smartphone Company and now after the separation from Xolo, leading manufacturer Lava has not stopped creating innovative product. Lava has come up with Iris line segment and is proving to be a great success for Lava.

Iris Pro 20 is the new member to get added in the Lava family and today I am going to review each and every aspect of the phone in detail. Have a detailed look in to its display feature, camera section, hardware section and battery section and conclude for yourself whether this is the phone your were waiting for.

Let's check out the phone in details but before that, have a quick look at its highlights:

    • Android 4.2 JellyBean Operating System
    • Dual SIM (normal + micro)
    • 4.7 inch qHD IPS OGS display with Gorilla glass protection
    • 960 x 540 pixels resolution
    • 1.2 GHz quad-core processor
    • 1GB of RAM
    • 8 Megapixel rear camera with dual LED Flash
    • 0.3 Megapixel front-facing camera
    • Noise cancellation with dual microphones
    • 4GB internal memory, expandable upto 32GB using microSD Card
    • 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS
    • 2000 mAh battery

    Design and Packaging:

Basic and first impression of the smartphone is its design and build. It is said to be the bigger version of Iris Pro 30 and has similar design features. When you hold Iris Pro 20 first thing you will notice is that the phone is very light and fits to the hand very comfortably. The phone resembles a lot to iPhone and it actually is inspired by Apple iPhone. Though the looks of the phone is inspired or reminds you about the iPhone but the feel of the phone will not project the same. It has a tough plastic body with smooth and glossy look.

Front of the phone looks sober which comprises of huge display and three capacitive touch buttons. Above the screen of 4.7-inch you would find the ear-piece, sensors and front camera. Above the phone you would find only the 3.5mm audio jack, which is now common in all the smartphones. Below the phone there ismicroUSB port and microphone. Back of the phone has impressive looks and packs 8MP camera with dual LED flash and logo of the company in middle and speakers grilled at bottom of the back. Sides of the phone is also no different from other smartphones, you have power button and volume rocker button on the right side of the device with nothing on the right of the phone. One good thing about the design part is back of the phone is removable which is absent in most of the smartphones.

    Display / Screen:

Display is vital hardware in the smartphones which can attract as well as distract customers. Lava is now a strong player in the market and knows the value of losing market. To retain the good will among the users they have done well with the display section. Phone is provided with 4.7-inch IPS display which gives this phone a good scoring mark in display section. Though it has qHD (960x540) resolution with 234ppi still you get clear pictures and sharp output. If you compare this phone with other smartphones then you will be disappointed with the display provided by Lava to its new flagship. Display has One Glass Solution but this will not help to enhance the display features with low resolution.

Only problem that is clearly visible is the washing out of color while tilting the phone, while the sun legibility of the phone is not very appreciable. Overall the display is passable and it can be said that Lava has tried to put lot in display section compare to the price quoted for this budget phone.

    Software and UI:

Iris Pro 20 is loaded with Android 4.2.1 JellyBean which is outdated OS in currently released smartphone. World has moved to Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and still Lava is messing aroundJellyBean. Atleast Lava should have provided Android 4.3 JellyBean on its new flagship.

All the MediaTek powered phone runs on same sort of interface and so is the new Lava Iris Pro 20. It has good UI which provides smooth performance but if we multi-task the phone it shows lags and glitches on most of the occasions. We can conclude that OS provided in the phone is really outdated and does not match the users expectations and nor Lava promises to provide further update of the OS.

    Hardware and Performance:

Strength of the phone lies in the hardware and according to the strength of the phone we can come to an accurate conclusion about the performance of the phone. If you go through the smartphone of any company you will not find any phone running on less than Quad-core processors so Lava too has decided to come up with super fast Quad-core processor for making computing fast and reliable.

Quad core 1.2GHz MediaTek MT6582 with 1GB RAM is sufficient to outclass most of the competitors in line with Iris Pro 20. To enjoy powerful graphics Lava has introduced PowerVR SGX544 GPU which will carry out all your graphic operation with ease.

If you are heavy browser or want to carry out multiple process at same time you can rely on Quad-core processor and 1GB RAM which allows you to browse efficiently between multiple tabs and switch to different process. If you are heavy gamer then GPU inbuilt will give you glitch free and smooth gaming experience, which means strength of Iris Pro 20is impressive and hence we can conclude that the phone’s performance is just good.

Coming to storage part of the phone, you will be provided with 4GB inbuilt memory and if you wish to enhance the memory then it is possible with the help of memory slot provided in the phone. Performance and hardware of the phone is good not excellent but as per the price you cannot expect much more in such low-budget phone.

    Camera Quality:

Recently you may have encountered smartphones that has been launched with megapixels equivalent to digital camera and the features of the camera is equivalent to DSLR. Now world has moved up from 5MP sensor camera to at the least 8MP camera to maximum 41MP camera in Nokia Lumia phone. Lava Iris Pro 20 has camera of 8MP which can capture amazing landscapes and portraits in day light or outdoor.

There are many features associated with the camera of the phone like HDR, Beauty Shot, EV Bracket mode which is default with MediaTek powered phones. Low light imaging is little noisy and does not justify 8MP camera sensor. Dual LED flash associated is good but still you won’t find clear and amazing picture. Videos can be captured with full HD resolution which is 1080p which is perfect feature in 8MP camera. You are also provided with VGA camera for video chat and video call.

    Battery Life:

Now coming to the most crucial hardware in smartphone the battery. With the advancement, power of the battery has also increased to serve the powerful smartphone for longer duration. Most of the smartphone has reached up to 4000mAh mark in terms of battery power. Iris Pro 20 is given with nominal 2000 mAh battery which is well structured to look out for your all day operation with ease on your phone.

For heavy browsers and users this phone will not be the best options as this phone promises only to give 7 hours of backup. Normal users can use the phone for longer duration. As per the price is concerned battery provided in the phone is just perfect and has good performance.

Lava Iris Pro 20 is good phone and all average features are associated with it. Look and feel of the phone is good with respect to its price, but it does look like a cheap body. Display of the phone should be atleast 720p but its still qHD display which is not so impressive. Camera section is average and could have been more impressive as per the price of the phone and the advancement of technology.

Software of the phone is old school it should have been the latest or Lava should provide guaranteed upgrade of the phone. Battery of the phone is also just average which means you can place this phone in average section. Lava will have to come up with more advancement and innovation in the technology to beat the competition in the market.
