    Dell Venue 8 Tablet Review

Dell Venue 8 is in the line to create boom in the market. You might be thinking that Dell has already released its Venue 8 flagship last year then why Dell is reviving it in the market. Let me clear the whole story, it is true that Dell has released its Venue 8 flagship last year but that flagship was running with Windows OS and now Dell has released Venue 8 again with Android running OS.

As the market is growing intensely with Android, Dell does not want to loose the pace in the market and so this flagship is being revived. Dell has announced two tablets Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 which will be powered with Atom processors. Design of Venue 8 Windows version is very different from Venue 8 Android version. So let’s see what Dell has promised to give with its latest flagship. Will this flagship be worth its price? Let’s take a look into each and every aspect of this new tablet and decide for ourselves whether it’s worth buying. Let's have a quick look at its highlights before reviewing the tablet.

    • Android 4.2 JellyBean Operating System
    • 8 inch multitouch IPS display
    • 1280 x 800 pixels resolution
    • 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2760 processor
    • 2GB DDR2 RAM
    • 5 Megapixel rear camera with Auto focus
    • 2 Megapixel front-facing camera
    • 1080p HD video recording
    • 3G (Optional), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS
    • 16GB / 32GB internal memory, expandable upto 32GB using microSD Card
    • 4100 mAh battery

    Design and Packaging:

As I already mentioned that design of already launched Venue 8 is different from the Android version of Venue 8 so lets discover what difference this device possess from Windows version Venue 8. All the dell device is known for its sturdy and heavy design and same is carried on to this tablet also. Dell Venue 8 looks very sturdy in design and has good body material. Device is well-built and can take few knocks easily.

The matte finish on the back of the tablet gives it a premium look as well as it provides proper grip in the hand. Front of the tablet has huge screen of 8-inch and screen is very glossy and reflective. Also it is a magnet for fingerprints which is a big issue. It has no hardware button on front, all the buttons like home, back and options are present on the screen itself. Above the screen it is given with 2MP camera and camera captures clear videos which can be useful for making video conferencing or web meetings. Matte finished back has 5MP camera and towards the centre you can see the Dell logo and below that you can see Intel logo mark.

Sides of the tablet is 9.5 mm thick and is well designed, left of the tablet has micro USB port for charging and USB cable connection with computer or laptop. Below micro USB hole, you have volume rocker buttons which is chrome finished. Right side of the tablet holds a microSD card slot for memory expansion and as this device is only WIFI enabled device there is no SIM slot given in this device. Upper side of the phone is covered by 3.5mm audio jack and Power button again with chrome finish.

Handling this tablet with one hand is very difficult due to its size and weight, it’s actually true for most of the tablets, so you need to use your both the hands to operate this tablet efficiently.

    Display / Screen:

Display plays an important role for any smartphones or tablets, more attractive and clear the screen appears more is the demand for the device. Dell knows this fact as it is not new in the market and laptops and computer of Dell provides good display and same is expected on its new flagship. Dell has provided 8-inch display for its Venue 8 device and it has 1280x720 pixel resolution. Resolution offered to this device is very good but pixel density of the tablet is very low with only 189ppi that makes the overall display quality poor.

Display of the Dell tablet still provides good colour reproduction and has decent viewing angles too. sunlight readability is fine and due to low ppi you often need to zoom in to read text or books. Dell could have provided better display with compact pixel density which would have enhanced display clarity of the device. In all we can say display is average and is fine for watching movies, gaming and work.

    Operating System and UI:

Venue 8 is running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which is good for the device like this and may be later on it will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat version. UI of the tablet is simple with lockscreen widgets, Option to create multiple profiles, Daydream and Quick settings. Venue 8 UI has set of utility apps and Google apps on it, also it has PocketCloud app which helps in remote desktop access. Hardware configuration of the device is so powerful that it handles the OS and UI very smoothly and results in quicker response time. UI does not have impressive layout but you can download third party apps to make your homescreen and layout very attractive and impressive.

    Hardware and Performance:

Venue 8 is supported by Intel processor which is said to be very reliable and very comprehensive while we talk about the performance of the phone. Intel is well-known processor in laptop and PC world and now tablet device too are featuring Intel processors in it. Venue 8 is powered by an Intel Atom Z2580 Clover Trail+ dual-core processor with clock speed of 2GHz and 2GB RAM, so now one can understand how powerful this tablet will be and how efficient will be the working of this tablet.

Multiprocessing and multitasking will be no issues with this type of configuration and Intel processor are known for multi-threading capacity which makes them heavy duty processors. PowerVR SGX 544 MP2 GPU adds another benefit to this device, now all the graphic related instructions will be handled very well with this GPU. Device has many connectivity features like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and USB OTG support. Connectivity is quite strong and no dropping of connections were observed. Device comes with 16GB internal memory support and it also has memory card slot expansion to expand the memory of this device.

Re: Dell Venue 8 Tablet Review

Every device is now offered with sharp and brilliant camera, even in tablets it has reached up to 8MP camera. Venue 8 holds a 5MP using which you would be able to capture good picture and shoot good resolution video with your device. Auto focus feature of the camera is amazing and captures good images even when the object is too close to camera. Lens adjusts the focus and you get good image with this device. Macro shots and day light shots appeared to be bright and clear but low light imaging was not up to the mark as noisy image was observed.

UI of the camera is simple and does not provide many features for camera. It has simple UI like swiping the screen to see captured images from gallery and it has button to shift from Camera to Video mode and vice versa. These are few obvious options available in most of the camera interface. Venue 8 also has 2MP camera at front which is very essential for tablet like Venue 8 as tablet is meant for working and most of the people make presentations with their device and also make video calling, conferencing and web meetings.

To serve the device which is stuffed with so powerful hardware configuration for a really long time a very strong battery backup is required. Dell has ensured really good battery strength of 4100mAh power which allows your device to run for longer time and device do not have SIM feature so it will last for more time. Now watch movies, play games or prepare presentation on your device without worrying about the drainage of the battery. For heavy gamers too the tablet is expected to stay for a long time.

Venue 8 features some really impressive features. Venue 8 is been given an amazing hardware configuration powered with Intel Atom processor which can be USP for this tablet. Display is little weak but doesnít matter in front of such powerful configuration and performance. Display given is HD and provides good viewing angle and touch response but ppi density is weak letting down the quality of the display.

Camera given is good and provides desired result most of the times and battery life of the tablet is very long. Tablets these days come with SIM support so itís kind of disappointing that this one lacks it. Also its currently running on android 4.3 Jelly bean, however we can expect an update to latest Android OS eventually. Apart from the display, all the other features in the tablet are quite impressive and would let the tablet hold its position in the market for a long time.
