    Xolo Q3000 Review

Xolo Q3000 is the latest android Smartphone by Xolo which apparently is the costliest phone Xolo has ever launched. Xolo has by far known to have delivered good handset at a low price. This is a shift from its tradition of budget friendly handset. The Q3000 features a 5.7inch IPS display with a good 13MP camera with a price tag of approximately Rs.21000. this is going to be a huge attraction for those who have wanted a huge full HD display at a comparatively affordable price.

Apart from the display and camera the phone packs in a quad core processor and a 4000mAh battery. Other brands offer you full HD display too however at a very high price. So should you be considering this or not can be decided by going through details mentioned here, have a look. But before that, let's have a look at Xolo Q3000's highlights:

    • Android 4.2 JellyBean Operating System
    • Dual SIM (GSM + GSM)
    • 5.7 inch IPS Full HD capacitive touch screen display
    • 1920 x 1080 pixels Resolution
    • 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor
    • 2GB of RAM
    • PowerVR SGX544 GPU
    • 13 Megapixel rear camera with BSI 2 sensor and LED Flash
    • 5 Megapixel front-facing camera with BSI sensor
    • 1080p video recording
    • 16GB internal memory, expandable upto 32GB using MicroSD Card
    • 3G (HSDPA: 42.2 Mbps, HSUPA: 11.5 Mbps), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS
    • Accelerometer, Magnetometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor
    • 4000 mAh battery

The Q3000 has a solid built and has a matte finish. It fits well into the palms and has a good grip. It weighs about 202g and is light to hold. It has the dimension of 9.69mm x 81.66mm x 151mm. The front side of the device is occupied by the 5.7inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Below the screen there are 3 backlit buttons, whereas on the top there are sensors, speaker and the 5MP camera. To the right it power button and has volume rockers to the left edge. Above the device sits the 3.5mm audio jack and the micro USB port. The device holds accelerometer, proximity, light, gyro and magnetic sensors. It has the LED notification light that would light up when there is any new notification like a new message, mail or low battery etc.

As you turn back the handset you see the 13MP camera neatly placed on the matte back cover. The back cover holds a 4000mAh battery, two SIM slots and micro SD slot. One of the SIM slot supports the min SIM whereas the other one supports micro SIM like most of the new devices. The strong batteries in most of the newly launched device make me feel like the manufacturers have finally realized the need for a strong battery in the smartphones that consumes a lot of charge. The micro SD card is expandable up to 32GB. The phone is processed by Mediatek MTK6589T quad core chipset and is supported by 2GB RAM.

The Q3000 features a 5.7inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display is very smooth and responsive at the slightest touch. Due to proximity and light sensors the display easily adjusts to the sunlight and offers good readability. Viewing angle is pretty good, though there is slight difference in the color while you look at image from a side. The full HD resolution of the screen ensures bright, sharp display with vibrant colors. Texts look very sharp and can be read out comfortably. Even when the font size was kept small the texts were displayed well and were legible.

The display is great to watch simple 2D graphics while gaming, however it did not really support heavy graphics. There was occasional lagging when I tried playing 1020p videos and while trying out a heavy racing game. This was really a disappointment I mean what’s the use of a full HD display when the phone doesn’t fully support full HD playback. I tried Moto racing in a low graphic mode, and then it worked smoothly and looked great. These problems are of the processor rather than the display. At the given cost there are very few manufacturers offering huge full HD display.

The Xolo Q3000 is powered by Mediatek MTK6589Tquad core chipset with Cortex A7 processor along with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Itís not really a new processor and isnít very powerful. Simple apps and games run smoothly in the device. However if you are too much in to gaming and want to try out heavy games then I wouldnít say this is an ideal one. The phone is supported by a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. Out of 16GB, 12GB is user memory while the rest is system memory.

Xolo Q3000 also has the micro SD slot with which you can expand memory up to 32GB.The 2GB RAM helps in faster multi-tasking in the phone. The good part is, you can install apps even in external storage so there would no memory issues. Various video formats are supported by the device and plays videos of up to 720 p very pleasantly. Unfortunately 1080p video faced a lot of problem with occasional lagging.

Now coming to the sound system, the speaker sounds very soft and is of average quality. Call quality was however good and quite clearly audible. Connectivity like 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth worked pretty smoothly without any lag. As far as issues with heavy gaming are concerned you can try out low graphics mode in the game.

As mentioned in the hardware part, the phone holds a 13MP rear camera with a LED flash. You can record full HD 1080p videos in it and the output was decent. Videos get recorded in 3GP format. Picture quality is good and colours looked vibrant especially in the HDR mode. The night mode wasnít very impressive as the LED flash dint really help to light up the photo.

Low light images looks blurred sometimes however at perfectly lit conditions the images were sharp. The 5MP front camera is good for clicking self-portrait, though of a low quality. But itís really good for video chatting. Focussing is a bit slow and you need to hold the phone still for some time to get sharp pictures.

    User interface:

This android handset runs on the 4.2.1 version is has got a bit old now. Most of the recent launches run on the latest KitKat version. The UI is not bad but in future there might be compatibility issues with new apps. There is a notification bar like the basic android OS. Apart from the normal features you find options like night mode, sync frequency, last mode etc. the night mode is a battery saver also the sync frequency does the same work.

A detailed monitoring of battery is possible where the approximate time left for 3G browsing and other functions are mentioned. So this would help in handling the device well especially when you want the battery to last really long. The one handed mode, activated on long pressing the black button, helps in handling the device in a single hand.

There is a security app that helps in tracking the device, wipe data if necessary, take photo of the person trying to unlock the device, also in case of new SIM in the device an alert mail would be sent to the email and the previous number too. Syncing with google apps like Gmail, Google drive etc. is very quick.

    Re: Xolo Q3000 Review

The phone features a 4,000mAh battery which is a powerful one. However the battery didnít really perform very well on heavy usage of the phone. Under continuous gaming and video playback it last for less than 6 hours. If used normally without much gaming and playback the device should last for a day. The night mode, frequency mode etc. are few battery managing app in the device. It offers proper monitoring of the battery life and mentions approximate time for usage. There is some good battery saving apps in the android market also. Using those apps should solve the problem of less battery life.

On the positive side, Q3000 offers a huge screen that is full HD at a low price, the 13MP camera is decent and gives fine output most of the time, good user interface and the battery life is quite good unless you thwart the phone with gaming and video playback for a long time. It supports dual SIM and has a good memory; moreover apps can be installed in micro SD which means more space in the internal memory.

On the downside, the Xolo Q3000 has an average processor that restricts the use of heavy games and full HD videos. If you arenít really into much gaming then itís a good option. You should also consider other options in the market like new devices from Samsung and HTC that is in somewhat in the same price range.
