Installing Android 4.4 Kitkat CyanogenMod 11 Custom ROM on Nexus 10

For those who are still waiting for the official version of Android 4.4 Kitkat update for their Nexus 10 may / will have to wait for few more weeks for the release of latest update for Nexus devices. If you don't want to wait for so long, then you have an option of the unofficial version of the same, in form of CyanogenMOD 11 Custom ROM running on latest Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. This is available to flash on Google Nexus 10 incurred with stock Android 4.4 Kitkat features and other customizing capabilities. The ROM has been tested successfully on Nexus 10 tablet and of course works great.

So, if you want, you can go ahead with the provided step by step processing for flashing CyanogenMod 11 on your Nexus 10. But let me tell you that Rooting or install Custom ROMs is not an official process, so you must carry it out on your own risk. Also remember that these processes will kill your device's warranty, during the rooting the device there are chances of data getting erased available in the device, hence it is necessary to take back up of the device to restore it later. Also make sure your carry out the process without any mistake or it can brick your device. If you agree we can move ahead to the Cyanogen 11 installation process but before that have a look at these Prerequisites.

    • You must backup all your important data from the phone because during installing Custom ROM we need to wife out the phone memory which will also erase all your saved data / files / Documents.
    • Make sure your tablet is charged atleast 60% or above, it should not get drained out during the process.
    • Enable the USB debugging by going to Nexus 10's Settings > Developer Option.
    • Download Nexus 10 USB Driver and install it on your computer.
    • And obviously your Nexus 10 tablet must be already Rooted to install Custom ROM. Make sure it is having CWM recovery.
    • Download CyanogenMod 11 ROM package and copy it to your Tablet's SD Card
    • Download Gapps Package and copy it too to the SD Card

Re: Installing Android 4.4 Kitkat CyanogenMod 11 Custom ROM on Nexus 10

Installing CyanogenMod 11 on Nexus 10:

    • Boot your Google Nexus 10 in to Recovery mode by pressing and holding Power key + Volume Up + Down keys for about 10 to 15 seconds. Now select Recovery and enter into CWM Recovery Mode.
    • Now use the Volume Rockers to scroll and select "Wipe data/Factory reset” by pressing the Power button. This will wipe out your entire device.
    • Now scroll down at the bottom and select “Advanced” and then select “Wipe Dalvik Cache”.
    • Once done, go to main Recovery Menu and select ‘Install zip from SD card’. Browse to the location where you have copied the downloaded CyanogenMod 11 ROM Package. Select the same and installation should start.
    • ROM installation may take couple of minutes, so be patient and let the installation complete.
    • Once done, again select "Install Zip from SD Card" and repeat the process with Gapps package.
    • After this installation, go to the Main recovery screen and select the very first option, i.e. Reboot System Now.

As this is the first boot, it may take bit longer time. So dont panic and let it boot comfortably. That's it. Your tablet is now running on Kitkat Custom ROM.
