    Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Review

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 was launched a few days back by Samsung after the huge success of galaxy grand that was launched an year ago. Samsung galaxy grand 2 is the upgraded version of grand with much improvement over its forerunner. There are a number of differences in both the handsets, with the new one packed with many new features compared to grand and priced comparatively higher.

The Galaxy grand 2 box offers the handset, battery, charger, data cable, earphone, guide and an ear plug. This new handset with a 5.25nch 720HD display is processed by quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor. Not only has Samsung given it a powerful processor but a great battery too; that calls off the usual issues faced by most of the mobile users. Viewing its battery power and processing power this handset looks like it is going to be a tough competitor in the market for the mid ranged handsets. Galaxy Grand 2 is a dual SIM handset that is priced at Rs.23,000. Now, whether itís worth selling out for Rs. 23,000/- bucks or not letís find out.

But before going for the same, letís have a look at the highlights of Galaxy Grand 2.

    • Android 4.3 JellyBean operating system
    • Dual SIM
    • 5.25 inch capacitive touch screen display
    • 1280 x 720 Pixels resolution
    • 1.2 GHz quad-core processor
    • 1.5GB of RAM
    • 8 Megapixel rear camera with Auto Focus and LED Flash
    • 2 Megapixel front-facing camera
    • 1080p video recording
    • 8 GB internal memory, expandable upto 64GB using microSD Card
    • 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v 4.0, GPS/GLONASS
    • 2600 mAh battery

    Design and Packaging:

The Galaxy Grand 2 looks more or less similar to Galaxy Grand except for its size. It looks same from the front but its slimmer and slightly big. It weighs about 165gms with a length of 146.49mm, breadth 75.03mm. It features a 5.25inch TFT screen with 1280◊720 pixels resolution. The power button is situated in the right of the handset like most of Samsung devices.

Towards the left of the handset is the volume controls. Micro USB port is located at the bottom with the primary microphone whereas 3.5mm jack is at the top.

The earpiece is at the center right above the Samsung logo. There are ambient and proximity sensors in the front alongside the 1.9MP front facing camera. Like other Samsung handsets, there is a home button below the display with two capacitive key on either side. Only the home button is highlighted and the other two lights up only when needed. As you turn around the phone you see the 8MP camera with LED flash. Samsung has thoughtfully replaced the usual plane plastic back to a faux leather texture plastic back that reminds you of the galaxy note 3.

However donít be fooled by it as it just made to look like leather and does not give a leathery feel. This coating is scratch and fingerprint proof that adds to the quality. This cover is removable within which the 2600mAh removable battery is loaded. The micro SD and both the SIM slots are right above the battery concealed within the phone. The build quality is good and handling is very comfortable unless you are not very used to huge devices.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Review

The Samsung galaxy grand 2 features a 5.25inch 1280◊720 pixels resolution TFT display. It is 720p HD with pixel density of 280ppi. The display is incredible and bright displaying every detail vividly. The grand 2 has very sharp display unlike the grand which had an average display and performance. Viewing angle is average with slight differences in the contrast from different angle and images appear not in the way they actually are. Sunlight readability is not that good. If Samsung would have gone with the S-LCD it would have been much better and would have solved all the issues.

Touch is very smooth and there is accelerometer, proximity, light and magnetic sensors to support better viewing experience. With respect to the price, Samsung has provided a good quality with 100ppi more compared to galaxy grand. Due to the good pixel density and resolution and also given the huge display size, watching HD movies is very comfortable. We tried playing 720p and 1080p full HD videos, it went quite well. You can try out some really good games on this handset that surely would give you a good experience.

    Operating system and User interface:

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 runs on Android 4.3 OS and most probably it may get Android 4.4 Kitkat somewhere in near future. The user interface is pretty good with absolutely smooth touch and a lot of shortcuts. It is empowered with Samsungís TouchWiz UI. The phone has regional support to give the users a better experience.

It offers 5 point multi touch and a lots of customization options too. Quick glance option would help you take a look easily in to all the notifications at once. There are many lockscreen options and easy app launchers. You could download some really exiting apps supported by android 4.3 OS from the Google play that would enhance you user experience. Performance is swift and smooth with apps loading quite fast.

Samsung galaxy Grand 2 features an 8MP rear camera and a 1.9MP front camera. The 8MP rear camera has auto focus feature with single LED flash. Clicks were good especially indoor when you click with a flash. Outdoor images very classy but you require apt light. You can record full HD videos using the 8MP camera at 30fps. Focusing object especially the closer one in the video mode was difficult.

It supports shooting images while video recording. Click photos using any mode and use simple effects to make the image look extraordinarily great. There is good number of photo editing and enhancing apps that Samsung usually offers to its high end smart phones. You can also try out some apps offered by google play that has numerous photo editing options. Using front camera you can record videos at 720p resolution. I wouldnít call it an ideal one for taking pictures but it is good enough for video chatting.

Smartphones usually have low battery problem, so now the smartphone manufacturers are trying to address that problem well. As mentioned earlier, the phone encloses a 2600 mAh battery that is removable. Under normal circumstances, the phone can stay charged for an entire day without any problem. If you play games, use 3G connectivity, record videos for some time, stream videos, the phone would probably last for 6 to 7 hours until the next charge. In order to make your battery more efficient turn of Wi-Fi and other connectivity options when not in use. You can also go for battery saver apps from google play that would help in enhancing the battery life.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Review

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is powered by quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 GPU. It has 1.5GB RAM and phone memory of 8GB and micro SD slot supporting memory up to 64GB. 2.83 GB of phone memory is used by system and rest is available for the users. Note that apps and installation takes place in the phone memory itself and it cannot be transferred to external storage.

However, Most of the required apps come preinstalled in the phone so there wonít be much issue. Since it has a fast processor coupled with a good RAM the performance of the phone is remarkable and multi-tasking is very smooth. We tried a couple of heavy games that ran very smoothly without any hiccups. Internal memory causes some problem when you want to play some very heavy games. 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performed very well and sound quality of the phone is great.

Galaxy Grand 2 has some really good features and is far much better that Galaxy Grand. If you liked Grand then you are probably going to love this one. Multitasking and performance is quite fast and smooth. User interface is good and has a good number of customization options. Designing of the product is done well especially the back cover. It has android 4.3 OS out of the box, so thatís one good thing. Battery looks great and camera is fine too. Thereare a good number of connectivity options. GPS works exceptionally well, Wi-Fi connectivity was good too. RAM is good and you can expand memory up to 64GB so itís like you can store huge number of movies, songs, videos etc. comfortably.Memory issues may be faced if you are too much in to gaming, since you canít transfer apps from phone to external memory, else that should not be a problem.

For a price of Rs.23000 the phone looks decent. Itís packed with really good features and would come in a very affordable price.
