Update Sony Xperia T to Android 4.4 Kitkat Custom ROM

Sony Xperia T is a budget android Smartphone that comes loaded with 13MP camera, Sony Xmor R Cmos sensor, 1GB RAM and 1.5Ghz cpu. This phone comes with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The phone has a smart design and comes with smart camera features. Till yet Sony has officially not provided any update for the upcoming Android 4.4Kit OS. This guide is for those who already own this phone and want the new Android OS on their device. In future we can expect any fresh update for this device.

But you can go ahead with a manual setup. You can here add Omni Rom in the phone that is going to provide you Android Kitkat 4.4 OS. You can enjoy all new features in it. Remember that this \process requires rooting. That means you have to root your phone which will void the phone warranty also. So move ahead on your own risk.

    • You have to run a full system backup. You can do that through any popular backup utility. To stay on the safer side after rooting the phone also run a full rom backup. The process will create a system image file which is further easy to restore whenever need.
    • Go in Settings > Applications > Development and enable USB Debugging. This is very important.
    • Before moving ahead with flashing process it is necessary that you have to check your phone battery. There must be more than 80% of battery left.
    • Download KitKat 4.4 Android Firmware Package and Google Apps Package and save it on your desktop.
    • Your phone must be rooted before moving ahead. Or else this process will fail to work.
    • Install Sony USB Drivers in your system. You can download the same from provided link.
    • Keep a SD card ready with you. You have more than 400MB of space left in that.

If everything ready then we will move ahead with the process. Remember that this is not an official rom. It is a custom one and the setup will wipe out the original factory OS.

    Installation Process:

    • Check that your phone is rooted or not. This is just a verification process. You can install rootchecker app for the same. If not then you have to root your phone or else the rom will remain locked.
    • Connect the mobile phone with pc through original usb cable. Then transfer the downloaded package in the SD card. Do not put them in the internal storage. I am talking about Kit Kat 4.4 Android Firmware Package and Google Apps Package.
    • Disconnect the phone.
    • For easy flashing we can use Rom Manager application. You can find the app on Google Play. Download the app and install it on your phone. It only works on rooted devices. Through this we can enter the recovery mode instantly.
    • From the rom manager app choose reboot in recovery mode. The phone will automatically restart in recovery from where we can run the rom setup.
    • From the menu choose Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
    • Then choose Wipe Cache Partition.
    • Once you are done with both you will have to choose Install zip from SD card from the main menu. Choose the rom package.
    • Follow the screen instruction for setup.
    • The process will take some time and once it is done you have to again go in the same section and choose Google Apps Package.
    • If everything goes well, the new rom is installed in your system. You can enjoy new features.

Do post if you face any issue in using this custom rom.
