How to Unlock Boot loader in Google Nexus 5

Google Nexus 5 is a new Smartphone running on the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system. This new phone has great features and comes with great hardware configuration also. The phone has locked rom that does not allow you to do advance changes. Like you cannot add custom rom on it without rooting or unlocking the boot loader. Remember that rooting and unlocking boot loader is two different processes. You have to first unlock the boot loader and then you can go ahead with rooting stuff. That can be done through different applications like CF-Auto-Root, Super-SU or CWM. Whichever you find easy to use. Here I am going to show you detail process of unlocking the boot loader. Before moving ahead checkout the benefits of unlocking boot loader and pre-requirements for this process.

    Benefits and Pre-Requirement:

    • After unlocking the boot loader you have access to the internal rom. This is locked by the manufacturer and does not allow you to change anything. You can flash this part and install different custom rom on the same.
    • After this you can install custom recovery. Compare to the regular one, custom recovery give you more option. You can backup your device, you can boot in the advance recovery mode and restore your phone, fix permission, etc. Custom rom which works on Custom recovery comes loaded with advance features. You can run setup through zip files which make setup very easy.
    • Rooting is possible only after unlocking the boot loader. So you cannot move ahead with any flashing process if the boot loader is locked.
    • Download ADB Kit

    Installation Process:

    • Extract the content of adb kit on your desktop.
    • Run cmd in your system. You must run it in admin account.
    • Run the following command to change the root directory. Type Desktop/android-sdk-windows/platform-tools and then type adb version.
    • You will get the version of Android Debug Bridget on the same. You have to check that whether it must be working fine. There must not be any error on the same.
    • Again run the command Desktop/android-sdk-windows/platform-tools.
    • In your mobile phone enable usb debugging. To enable that go in Settings and tap on About Phone and then tap on Build Number. You have to tap 7 times on this and then only the Developer Option will turn on. Enable Usb Debugging from here.
    • Connect the phone to your pc and reboot in recovery mode. For that hold the volume up + volume down button + power key.
    • Extract fast boot and go in android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools folder.
    • Using cmd go in the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools folder. You can use the cd command.
    • Once you are in the directory type fast boot oem unlock.
    • You have to follow on the screen instructions and the boot loader will be unlock. It will wipe out all the data.
    • If everything goes boot loader is unlocked for installing new custom roms.
