Android 4.4 Kitkat top 20 Features

Google has finally revealed the most awaited Android update i.e. "Android 4.4 Kitkat". They revealed the OS with the launch of Google Nexus 5, in fact it is the first device to be running on this new Kitkat operating system. Right now I am going to give you details about top 20 things you can do in the new OS. Why this update is different and will be great for all new devices.

There is also a huge conversation going on updates for old phones. As per Google, Android Kitkat is light weight. It is capable of working on mobile with 512MB ram also. So there is huge expectation from this. But there are some features which are worth to discuss. Kitkat took a bit long time to come after Jellybean. Jellybean brought us battery optimization and multi-user view. Now in Kitkat, Google is going to give more.

Instead of loading the OS with more features, they made it light weight so that it can nicely work in all devices. There are tons of new improvement done which is going to boost your output and you will surely like the update. Here the regular Phone and Contact app is optimized to give you more features. You can locate nearby contact location through the default app directly. Calling is simpler now. Earlier in the old update you have to add a bit effort in making calls. But now you can instantly call, locate nearby places and hook Google Apps account on the same.

A major improvement in the OS lies with memory management. New OS means more memory to perform a set of different things. But things are reversed here. Android 4.4 is light on memory usage. It is capable of working on low end mobile phone also. It is trimmed down with required features only. This is only done through a major modification in the architecture.

Features like you can instantly launch the voice command through saying OK Google. You don't have to tap on the mic button for the same. You can run games and apps on full screen and enjoy better multitasking. Emoji is integrated in the keyboard so that you can instantly add some graphics in your chat. This is just minor highlights. So let’s move ahead and checkout the most outstanding feature of new Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.

Top 20 Features of Android Kitkat:

    Phone App:

The phone app which is by default used for making call, for checking call logs and accessing contact is modified. It is more improved and great in terms of usage. The app has additional benefit through which it keeps the most contacted people on the top list. You don't have to search in the contact again and again and locate it. Everything remains on the first page itself. Also through this app you can now locate the contacts location. You have to keep your gps on for that.

    Phone App Caller ID:

Caller ID is a very common feature which is available in Lumia device. It has an integrated app that search for details on the phone number and display information on screen. Now you can have the same on your device. Truecaller is a popular application which is used for the same purpose. But it affects the phone performance. Kitkat has an integrated Caller ID in Phone App. When you make or receive calls you get the details listed on the home screen. The app offers you listing on Google Maps also. So here you can easily identify spam calls and block them.

    Email App :

Leaving Gmail aside, there is an Email app available in Android from long time. If you have only Gmail account then you can use the Gmail app. But if you have multiple then you can use the Email App. This app further has some new changes. It is completely modified and now works smoother. Re: Android 4.4 Kitkat top 20 Features

    App Switch :

This is one of the best features I had seen so far. Now to switch a default app you have to go in settings and then tap on manage app. In that you have to search for the app and then you clear data. This thing is made more and better in Kitkat. This feature is called as easy app switch. It allows you to change the default application which is used for various purposes. You can access this thing directly from the home screen now.

    Hangouts Message Center:

Hangout App is now your message center. Google has optimized the app to receive your entire message at one place. The message center act as an easy way to get everything. Right now in Jellybean we get the message details in the notification bar. Which appear when swipe from top to down. This is removed and Hangout is a central place to get all the messages. This is quiet handy.

    Pre-installed Quickoffice:

Editing office files is quiet easy on tablet and smart phones. You can read and modify the files instantly. Keeping this find the Kitkat update will come with QuickOffice application. It is integrated and it works with all file formats. You can edit your word, excel and ppt files in it and share the same with your friends. The latest version is installed in Kitkat offering you a complete office solution.

    Music Art on Lock Screen:

The existing lock screen is plain and simple. You get the clock and timer with a tiny notification panel. But there is no way to get music player controls on the same. Some optimized OS like HTC Sense has this feature. You can control the audio control from lock screen by adding simple widget. But now in Kitkat this feature is available for all. On the lock screen you can toggle media and control playback.

    Web Components Support:

New websites comes loaded with different web component. Due to which sometime you can see a messed up page in Chrome. Kitkat has additional web component apps support. So that whatever page you open is displayed correction on the mobile screen. And the page usage remains more and more accurate. This was absent in the old OS causing various issue with site load.

    Device Manager:

We all know this popular app. Device Manager is a famous system utility in Windows that give you information on all active services, CPU and ram usage. It is a handy tool that gives you instant information about ongoing activity and you can boost our system performance through that. Kitkat has something similar to that. Device Manager in Kitkat is a bit different. This app helps you to manage your device and run a remote wipe in case the phone is lost.

Control device by saying OK Google:

Voice command helps you to talk instantly and get information from your device. Google from long time is trying to improve this thing. Apple Siri was hyped before saying that this is one of the best voice command tool. But things went down and people do not look much interested in using it. But still if you want to talk to your phone you can go ahead with saying OK Google and activate voice control. You can play/pay music, type a message and search direction through it.

    OTG Print:

For using a printer you have to rely on third party application. You have to first configure your printer on the app and then only you can make print. Now this thing is simpler. You get an optimized solution where the OS comes with Google Cloud Print support. That means you have to just hook your printer on your Gmail account using Google Cloud Print and you can use it whenever you want.

    Improved Download Manager:

Download Manager is no less memory consuming. It is re-design to give you decent output. Whenever I use a default download manager my browser crashes completely. This kind of bugs is removed. The new download manager has m ore options. Like you can sort out all the download files, you can see them in grid view and many more things.

    HDR+ photography:

This feature is only offered for Nexus 5 mobile phone. While other device cannot use this because of limited hardware. HDR + Photography are a new feature through which you can take amazing shots and get great photos. Here when you enable this feature the camera will pick up a set of few images and offer you option to choose the best among this. Ideal for taking photos in night.

Google Chromecast is a portable media link hardware through which you can share your video and audio content among different devices. Existing mobile phone with Jellybean does not support that. But Kitkat will work with it. You can now instantly share your phone content on HDTV with the help of Chromecast. It is simple to configure and does not really on third party app.

The plain Google keyboard now supports Emoji . That means you can use your favorite graphics to show up your mood and feelings. I was using a third party keyboard for that which has smileys in them. But to send that the person on other side must also have the same keyboard. Now the default keyboard has Emoji support where you can choose various graphics.

Re: Android 4.4 Kitkat top 20 Features

    Location Mode:

GPS is one of the major issues behind battery consumption. When it is on your battery life is reduced around 1 to 2 hrs. It is quiet annoying. Keeping that thing is mind Google has done certain changes in Location Mode setting. It has been made more accurate and come loaded with battery saving location mode. The gpu settings are now smart enough to choose from wifi, mobile network and gps whichever is available. This allows you to have more accurate settings and also save a bit of battery.

This is something interesting. It is already available in Galaxy S4 and Note 3. Pedometer is a health app. It counts all the steps which you are taking. So you can keep an eye on your calories burned. The app is well optimized so that you get great battery output also. The app is capable of counting your steps as you move. The app give you details associated with distance covered, speed and total amount of calorie burned.

This is a major improvement here. Google has enhanced the NFC and added payment authorization in that. That means you can pay through your NFC tag. Google Wallet is integrated with it. You can different apps and your NFC tag helps you to pay. This feature is commonly support by many telecom providers around the web.

    IR Blaster:

This thing was faded out. Now you can hardly seen an infrared control on your mobile device. This is actually limited to the hardware. IR Blaster adds an Infrared control on your phone. Through which you can control your TV. You can also control nearby devices which have an infrared support. This can be handy when you have multiple remote control devices in your home.
