BlackBerry Messenger BBM available for Android and iOS from September 21

Announced back in March that BBM will be available for Android and iOS, finally today BlackBerry confirmed the availability of "BlackBerry Messenger" (BBM) for Android and iOS devices. BlackBerry's own most popular messaging client BBM will be available for Download on Google Plat Store from Saturday, September 21st. While iOS users can download it from iTunes starting from Sunday, September 22nd. Probably this will renamed as "BBM For All"

Turned into cross-platform messenger, BBM requires Android devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher running operating systems, and for iOS users, it requires atleast iOS 6. Just like BlackBerry users required a PIN to connect with other BBM users, the functionality will remain the same for new users as well. All Android, iOS and BlackBerry users can simply connect to each other by sharing their PIN without unveiling their phone numbers.

As of now BBM for Android and iOS will come with limited features that will contain Chats, Groups and file sharing. However, rest of the amazing features of BBM will be made available for new users later via Updates.

Re: BlackBerry Messenger BBM available for Android and iOS from September 21

Because of the leaked BBM for Android on file sharing sites, Blackberry has delayed the release of official app for more than a week. In an Interview Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry said that over a million people downloaded/installed the leaked unofficial version on Android due to which they had huge loads on their server and it will take some time to clean up every thing. Hence they will release the official app after few more days.

According to the schedule, they launched the official BBM app of iOS but they pulled of the same as well on Monday because of the said problem, however the iOS users who already downloaded the app from iTunes on Sunday will continue to use but new users will have to wait until Blackberry put the app again on iOS.

On asked when actually the official BBM for Android will come, Andrew Bocking said they cannot say the exact time but it will not come in this week definitely.
