LG V10 Hands On - A beast with best in class Photography along with 2.1-inch second screen

As scheduled, LG has officially revealed their all new LG V10 smartphone with unique 'second screen' and dual front cameras. This is the all new 'V' series from the company. LG hasn't revealed the pricing for this phone yet but they said it will hit the market this month itself in Korea followed by United States, China and key countries in Asia, Latin America and Middle East. LG V10 will be available in five different color options including Modern Beige, Ocean Blue, Opal Blue, Luxe White and Space Black.

    Display and Design:

The new LG V10 features a huge 5.7 inch Quad HD In-cell Touch Quantum display offering 2560 1440 pixels resolution with 513 PP pixel density offering clearer, sharper and vibrant output. It is capable enough to provide you best multimedia, reading or gaming experience. There is also a 2.1 inch second display about which we will talk below.

Coming to the design, LG has worked really hard to make the phone powerful not only from inside, but also outside. It is protected with resilient Dura Guard that protects the device from hard bumps, tumbles as well as scratches. They have also used SAE grade 316L stainless steel to frame the sides of V10 making it strong enough. This is the same steel which is even used to make surgical tools. Apart from this, the new rear grid pattern provides a better grip making it fit nicely in hands.

    Always-on Second Screen:

This is something new for LG Smartphones. With V10, LG has brought us a 2.1 inch IPS Quantum Display that offers 160 x 1040 pixels resolution at 513ppi pixel density. This second screen is placed just above the main 5.7 inch screen and next to the dual front camera (we will talk about this dual thing below).

Known as "Always on Second screen" it works without impacting the battery life at all. To increase the productivity, no matter if the screen/phone is locked, you will be updated with all notifications including Weather, date and time, battery icon etc. This is when the main display is locked/off. And while the main display is On, you can set this second screen to show up your preferred apps shortcuts as quick launcher.

Furthermore, the second screen also works without disturbing you when you are using your phone for any important work. For example, you will see all your calls or messages in this second screen while you are playing Games or watching Movies on the main display. If you find the calls or messages important, simply tap on it to respond, or ignore and enjoy your game/movie.

Although this sounds new coz of its nicely placement area but we have seen similar thing in Samsung Galaxy Edge screens.

Re: LG V10 Hands On - A beast with best in class Photography along with 2.1-inch second screen

    Dual Front Camera:

LG V10 comes with Dual Front Cameras placed just next to the second screen. These are both 5 Megapixel shooters with 120 degree and 80 degree. Using these camera, you can now take Selfies never like before, without a selfie stick ofcourse. Both cameras capture two different images but combines them in one selfie

Here is how LG explains these Dual Selfie camera":

Wide angle images usually require a large, heavy lens which can distort the corners of photographs. The LG V10 features 5MP Dual Front Cameras with two separate lenses to capture standard 80 degree selfies or perfect wide angle selfies of 120 degrees, without the need to pan the smartphone which increases the likelihood of camera shake. For the wide angle shot, the V10 employs a sophisticated software algorithm to combine images from the two separate lenses which are just far enough apart to provide two different points of view. The ability to take group selfies without a selfie-stick has never been easier. Multi-view Recording can capture different angles utilizing all three cameras on the V10. Select and insert the version that looks best in your masterpiece.
    Rear Camera:

The rear camera provided with LG V is 16 Megapixel with OIS 2.0, F1.8 aperture, LED Flash and Laser AF. This is very similar to what we saw on LG G4 Flagship. But LG has pushed the camera software capabilities further. The phone offers the best in video capturing, editing and sharing.

LG V10 is the world's first smartphone that offers manual mode for videos as well, that we saw first in LG G4 for images. Using this manual mode we can now control shutter speed, frame rate, ISO, white balance and focus while recording videos. Talking about resolution, the camera supports upto 4K Ultra HD videos in 16:9 standard or 21:9 cinematic. Here's the complete list of features we get with LG V10 Camera:

    • Steady Record: utilizes electronic image stabilization (EIS) optimized for recording video to neutralize shake, helping to capture sharper video footage when in motion
    • Snap Video: create one video by combining many shorter videos
    • 15 Sec. Auto Edit: create a short video highlight clip by automatically eliminating blurred frames and static scenes
    • Quick Video Editor: easily trim or change the frame rate and add after-effects, such as colors and background music
    • Quick Share: when finished recording, a pop-up appears on the display showing options of popular social networks to make video sharing even easier and faster
    • Audio Monitor: adjust the sensitivity of the three microphones during video recording and directly monitor and control audio input, including directional recording capability to highlight sound from one particular location
    • Wind Noise Filter: eliminate external wind noise for high-quality sound when shooting video outdoors

Re: LG V10 Hands On - A beast with best in class Photography along with 2.1-inch second screen

    Processor, RAM & Storage:

LG has powered up V10 with 1.8 GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor accompanied by 4GB LPDDR3 RAM. With such huge RAM we can surely expect smoothest performance and multitasking. It also has an Adreno 418 GPU allowing us to enjoy HD Gaming on such large screen.

As per storage, the phone comes with built-in 64GB storage memory. That enough for most of the users, i guess. But still you feel short, expand it upto 2TB with microSD card.

    OS, Access & Security:

LG V10 comes out of the box running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. Surely it would be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow sometime i near future. It brings all those OS features which we have seen in LG G4 but V10 is bit smarter. For example, for music fans, V10 automatically detects connected devices and provides sound control options which can be customized.

Now coming to Security features, we get the Knock Code along with a Fingerprint Scanner nicely placed at rear facing just below the camera, as we recently saw in Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. Unlike other smartphones, this Sensor unlocks the phone and turns on display simultaneously. In other devices, we need to first turn on the display and then unlock the phone. This Fingerprint scanner can also be used for Android Pay, Only in US to make secure payments.

    Connectivity and Battery Life:

LG V10 is a 4G LTE smartphone supporting other connectivity features including 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC and Slim Port.

The phone gets all juice from a 3,000mAh battery. It has built-in Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology that charges the battery upto 50% in just 40 minutes. This is a removable battery which means you can carry extra unit with you to replace it anytime if you are running out of power while on the vacation.
