    Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen (2015) Review

The Moto Series from the company has brought some really amazing options for an end user. Motorola is targetting from entry level to the high end models under this Moto Series. We all known the first smartphone under Moto series (Moto G) was also very successful in the market. Motorola has claimed that they had sold around 2.5Million Smartphones up to last year. And that to after introducing new models in Moto series. The most entry level and cheapest phone is Moto E and after that Moto G and Moto X comes that is a bit higher in configuration and screen size.

Motorola now introduced a new durable phone under a budget price of Rs.12000 called as Moto G 3rd Gen, also known as Moto G 2015. This device is water proof and comes with 8GB storage option. The device features more sleek design, waterproof packaging and standard output. This makes the phone one of the best model under the mid-range series. The device brings up some new features as well over its predecessors which we will find out in this Review. Now let’s have a quick look at the phone’s highlights:

Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) Highlights:

    • Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS
    • Dual SIM
    • 5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection
    • 1280 x 720 pixels resolution
    • 1.4 GHz quad-core 64-bit Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor
    • Adreno 306 GPU
    • 1GB RAM with 8GB ROM / 2GB RAM with 16GB ROM, can be expanded to 32GB using microSD card.
    • 13 megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, IR filter, f/2.0 aperture, 1080p video recording

    • 2,470mAh battery

    Design & Packaging:

Moto G 3rd Generation takes a lot of thing from its old version. The device is bit sleeker and better this time with a durable body design. At the front it has a 5 inch display with Gorilla Glass 3 Protection. This offers clean and neat screen even if you use it roughly. At the top it has as 5 Megapixel front camera that offers you decent selfie. Power and Volume buttons are to the right. The Micro USB port is towards the down side.

While Audio jack is on the top. A 13 Megapixel primary camera is on the backside with Dual LED flash. The back cover is removable. Inside lies Dual Sim slot a Micro SD card slot. The battery remains fixed at the back similar to its predecessors. This device is waterproof. It is necessary that you close the back cover tightly before taking it out.

Moto G 3rd Gen is big in size, but easy to operate and also impressive in looks. Most of the body elements are plastic that makes it light. The entire weight of this model is around 155g. It is light but it gets bulky if you get extra cover on the back. Overall it is a good phone with impressive body.

Re: Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen (2015) Review

    Display & Screen:

Moto G 3rd Generation has a 5 inch HD display. This screen offers you a max resolution of 1280x720. It is very much similar to Moto G 2nd Generation. The touch quality is good and fast. Gorilla Glass 3 protections let you to use the phone without worrying about the usage. The device runs on Stock Android operating system.

The screen works well from all angles. It does not fade out. Images are fairly visible and HD videos are just amazing on the screen. The device is not having any kind of additions in terms of screen. It is the same one I think that came before in the older version. Avoid pressing the screen much.

    OS & UI:

Moto G 3rd Generation runs on the stock version of Android’s latest Lollipop 5.1 operating system. So this does not bring anything special. We had seen that many manufacturers separately works on the rom and load it with extra features. So that it would let end users to get more productive output. Most of the things in Moto G 3rd Generation are based on the stock android operating system that is very easy to understand and usage. If you want to make it look different then you can go ahead with launcher.

    Camera Quality:

Moto G 3rd Gen carries 5 Megapixel camera on the front and a 13 Megapixel camera on the backside. The back camera is further supported by dual LED flash to keep the pictures brightest. Most of the camera features relies on the stock camera app. It is limited but enough to take impressive pictures. For taking selfies try to keep your face in more light or else the pictures get darker and pixilated. While the back camera is good with auto focus features. You can use third party camera app to get extra filters.

Many manufacturers are offering 2GB RAM under a budget price. But Moto series is stuck on 1GB only. If you use too many apps you will feel slow output and lagging issue in the phone. The device is powered by a 1.4 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 410 processor. With 1GB ram only. For gpu it has 400 MHz Adreno 306 GPU that help you to get some HD gaming on the device. But due to low ram not all games are going to work well. The device has an 8GB internal storage and if you want you can use a SD card up to 32GB on it. So there are choices for extending the storage, but I think Motorola must boost the RAM also.

    Battery Life:

The device runs on 2470mAH battery. This battery is enough to give you around 10 hours of usage. This is one of the best things about the phone. If you optimize it, it will work well for different usages like if you turn off GPS if not needed, 3G if not needed, then you can get up to 10 hours of decent battery output. If you use the device for surfing, multimedia, facebook, chatting, etc then you can expect a maximum output of 7 hours in a day.

Re: Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen (2015) Review

No doubt Moto G 3rd Generation is a good phone, but not the recommended though. The cost of this device is Rs.12000. But we already have so many models that come under Rs.15000 that makes Moto G 3rd Generation a cornered model. Still for those who trust mostly on brand and believe in having a resale value after some time of usage will happily opt for Moto G 3rd Generation.

I think next time when Motorola is releasing a new model they must surely work on atleast 2GB RAM so that apps and games can perform relatively well without much issue. Having a durable body design matters a lot. Water resistance is one of the biggest qualities that make the phone a decent phone.

Just like the 1st and 2nd Gen Moto G, 3rd Generation is also Flipkart Exclusive model. It is not sold on any other online shop that limits this phone stock. But this also puts a major impact on the price. It is very rare that the device’s price will fall.
