I would suggest you that when you are working on laptop just turn it off and disconnect charger, pull down the battery, and restart your laptop. Then try to open the DVD drive, if you are not able to open yet than plug in the battery back to place and restart now. See if it opes now.

Few people also solve the same problem with a patch named as 'Patch Files for Windows 7 (32/64) (v1.0; 09-02-2009; 2.14M).' Try to search it on Google.

Install this Toshiba total value package (TVAP) then after install Patch DVD HDD. I hope that this will be best solution for your machine.

I would suggest you that do one thing. Try a system restore and set the time and date. Am not sure but that can help too. Don’t worry that after making system restore you won’t lose data from your laptop. You can do this by just go to all program > accessories > system tools > system restore after doing this system will ask current date from where you want to store then click next.

After that restart your system if restore procedure doesn’t work please select earlier bold date from calendar. Repeat the procedure once again. Still you are no able to solve this issue; you should change your drive. There may be chances of that your DVD has been damaged or some hardware problem.
