How can I limit disk space for a User in Windows 8.1

Does Windows 8.1 has any option through which I can limit the disk space usage. For example I am having around 3 users on the system. And I had told them to keep their files on desktop. My C drive has the maximum size. Around 400GB. I have a 500GB drive. I had seen people purposely copying movies, games on the desktop and then there is low space message all the time.

I want to limit that. If someone moves above 50GB he must get a error. Not enough space. And they have to delete the old files. I want some kind of disk quota system.

Yes you can do that and it is very easy. But you cannot do separately for each users. You have to set a restriction on the disk usage. Like you can assign around 10 or 20% of your existing disk space and limit it.

For that right click on the partition and choose properties. Then click on quota. Click on Quota settings.
Now click on enable quota management. Add tick more on deny disk space to users exceeding limit.
Set the disk space below and apply the settings.

Next time if anyone exceed the limit they will get a message.

There is a way through which you can set a separate quota list of each and every users. And the option is very simple. You have to go in the same place. Just right click on the partition and choose properties and then click on quota. Set the quota and at the bottom side you can find quota entries. In that you have to click on Quota > New Quota Entry. Add the user name there and configure the limit you want to allow. That's it. In this way you can assign different limit to different users in the same pc.
