    Sony Xperia M2 Review

    Introduction:

Sony has joined the competition along with Samsung, Apple and HTC when other companies were busy in targeting high-end segment phones, Sony was planning mid-range segment phone along with premium phone Sony Z2. Sony is again gaining some momentum in the market with some serious smartphones which was madly liked by people globally. Sony has tried best hardware and camera and thus started with the revolution of powerful camera in smartphones.

Good news for the Sony lovers is that Sony is all set to launch new Xperia M2 which is cater to mid-range segment. Xperia M2 is next installment of its successful Xperia M and this next version of Xperia M has got real upgraded feature than its predecessor Xperia M. Bigger screen, powerful hardware and good battery backup are the features which Xperia M2 will posses. Compare to Xperia M it has double the hardware feature installed in it.

Here we begin with the coupled features of Xperia M2. Let's have a quick look at Xperia M2 highlights:

    • Android 4.3 JellyBean Operating System
    • 4.8-inch capacitive touch screen display
    • 960 x 540 pixels resolution
    • 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon (MSM8928 for LTE and MSM8226 for 3G) processor
    • 1GB of RAM
    • Adreno 305 GPU
    • 8 Megapixel rear camera with LED flash
    • 0.3 Megapixel front facing camera
    • 1080p video recording
    • 8GB internal storage, expandable upto 32GB using microSD card
    • LTE (Optional) / 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 820.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC
    • 2300mAh Battery

    Design and Packaging:

We have already encountered super and slim body design by Sony introduced first on Sony Xperia Z and followed by Z1. Both Xperia Z and Z1 have premium glossy finished body which can attract anyone’s attention but these phones fall in high end range phones. Sony has also introduced some tough designed body on its flagship Xperia ZR, Xperia M and Xperia C. With respect to the price of the phone, these models were cleverly designed by Sony. Xperia M2 is also inspired by high-end models and has OmniBalance design made of plastic and rubber material which allows you to have proper grip to hold.

Phone is slim and slender with just 8.6mm thick and weighs 148grams. You can have different colors like white, magenta, black and other colors to choose with. Xperia Smartphones has common control buttons and so M2 will have the same. Face of the phone has hardware like big display, camera and sensors. Display in the middle of and above lays front camera, earpiece, notification LED and couple of sensors. Xperia M2 does not have capacitive buttons so bottom of the phone is empty.

Sides of the phone has volume rocker buttons and round power key button and followed by dedicated camera key. Back of the phone has 8MP rear camera with LED flash, centre of the phone has Sony logo and on the bottom of the phone you will find Xperia branding logo. Upper sides of the phone has 3.5mm audio jack and down sides is clean but in one corner you will find microphone pinhole and speakers of the phone. Overall we can say design of the phone is just amazing

    Display / Screen:

Whether it is LCD or LED Sony rules the world when it comes to display innovation. Same technology is carried in mobile display. Bravia engine is well-known technology in the display of Sony and most of the premium phones are powered with Triluminous display with X-Reality engine which portrays super clear display with compact pixel density.

Xperia M2 is featured with 4.8 inch display with qHD display (540 x 960px) and 229ppi. Feature of the new Xperia M2 is really old school. World has moved to full HD display on high-end segment phone and atleast 720p resolution display on mid-range segment phone but Sony’s new flagship is still struggling with past years technology. Price tagged for this phone is very contradictory if compared to the display provided in the phone.

Though the phone has Gorilla Glass 3 protection but still output of the display will not be so impressive. Phone has average color reproduction and viewing angle, sun-legibility of the phone is also just average. We can say that Sony has just increased the size of the display rest all the feature of the display is same like its predecessor Xperia M.

    Re: Sony Xperia M2 Review

    Operating System and UI:

Phone is running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which is surprising from Sony. All the new release is running on latest Android 4.4.2 Kitkat and Sony is running behind competition in OS section too. UI of the phone is smooth and effective but only problem is of old Android OS. If Sony promises to provide update for its new flagship then this phone is perfect but if no update is given on this phone then this phone will be a huge no in the market.

    Hardware and Performance:

Sony has realized the ongoing trend in the market and so to cope up with the market Sony came up with four core processors for its flagship. Most of the Sony phones were struggling with dual-core processors when most of the companies started rolling out with four core processors. Xperia M has dual-core processor but its successor has double the power which means Xperia M2 is installed with Quad-core processors in it. Snapdragon 400 chipset is often used by mobile companies for their mid-range segment phone and so has Sony decided to offer the same.

Xperia M2 is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processors, 1GB of RAM and Adreno 305 GPU to make computing easy on daily basis. All your operations like playing, entertainment, work and many more are handled very smoothly on your Xperia M2. Definitely with so much power under hoods you will not use this phone just to make simple call or text messages. With so much power you can enjoy HD gaming, Video calling, handling your many works at a time and great news is you can handle it very easily on your Xperia M2.

Xperia M2 is also introduced in dual-SIM phone too so you can enjoy dual-SIM functionality. Phone comes with 8GB internal memory which is quite good and for further storage you can make use of microSD card.

    Camera Quality:

Sony’s lens is used by many mobile companies in their phones camera so we can say that Sony would have introduced good camera in its new flagship. Xperia M2 is powered with 8MP camera but does not have feature of G-lens which we saw in Xperia Z and Z1. Camera sensors installed in the phone is ordinary but captures stunning images with crisp colors.

To reach camera app on your phone you can make use of dedicated key provided on right side of the phone and start shooting your memorable moments. Phone can shoot HD videos at 1080p resolution which is must in all the phones now. Front camera will help you to have live calls or video calls so that you can have live experience of chatting with your dear ones. So we can say camera feature of the phone is good for mid-level phone.

    Battery Life:

Battery of the phone is powered by 2,300 mAh battery which is average battery strength compare to other phones in the market with same price. Though with average battery strength, Sony has unique Stamina mode feature and with this feature enabled you can get enhanced backup on your phone. It will smartly use the resources of your phone to increase battery life of your phone. So stay with your phone all day long without worries of early battery discharge leave tension with Stamina mode.

    Re: Sony Xperia M2 Review

    Conclusion:

Sony Xperia M2 has some amazing feature but some average features. M2 has good built up but display of the phone is very weak. Very low resolution, average viewing angle, average contrast ratio making M2 a big disappointment.

Hardware specification is amazing to produce smooth and powerful performance but OS running on the phone is little out of trend. Sony should have given latest Android OS in its flagship. Phone has good battery backup along with stamina mode feature of Sony. Overall this phone falls on 50-50 range, some good features with some average features.
