    Lava Iris 504Q+ Smartphone Review

LAVA came back once again with an upgraded version of LAVA Iris 504Q. This new version named as Iris 504Q+ is going to have nice impact on the buyers. The phone gives you suitable hardware support at a budget price. This time Iris 504Q+ is packed with Sony’s Exmor RS sensor that makes the phone camera much more better compared to others. 10MP camera is not simple one because of Sony sensor you can capture more detailed images instantly without messing much with the settings.

The device is sold for Rs.13000 in the market. So it fails in under a nice budget price. Package content brings you a bit of extra goodies like a flip cover and scratch guard. Lava Iris 504Q+ has a nice design but and it is also a bit durable. It provide you a good 5inch display that is enough for gaming and multimedia. At the price under Rs.15000 we are having some really competitive models in the market. Lets checkout whether Lava Iris 504Q+ is capable of beating them or not.

Now, before going to the deep test, let's have a quick look at the highlights of Iris 504Q+:

    • Android 4.2.2 JellyBean Operating System
    • Dual SIM GSM + GSM
    • 5-inch HD IPS OGS touch screen display with Asahi Dragontrail glass protection
    • 1280 x 720 pixels resolution
    • 1.3 GHz quad-core processor
    • 1GB of RAM
    • Mali-400 MP2 GPU
    • 10 Megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and Sony Exmor RS Sensor
    • 2 Megapixel front-facing camera
    • 8GB internal memory, expandable upto 32GB using MicroSD Card
    • 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS
    • 2000 mAh battery

    Hardware and Design:

There are bit changes in the design of Lava Iris 504Q+ compared to the older one. The phone is quiet nice and not really big. 5inch screen on the front makes it more useful. This device is not very large when you hold it. I am getting a nice grip and also it is easy to use with one hand. The phone has a bezels finish on the sides that add more to the design. 5inch IPS display on the front is capable of giving you a max resolution of 1280x720 pixels at 294ppi. The screen is impressive when it comes to reading or watching videos. It is detailed and crisps. Viewing angle are also fine. Color reproduction here is vibrant. I am quiet satisfied with the screen output. The display of Lava Iris 504Q+ is based on OGS technology. This makes is very sharp. I am happy to find that atleast LAVA has used a good display output on their device. Or else the regular display would be one of the biggest drawback.

Bright screen, good viewing angle makes the phone very easy to use. It is also nice enough to read under sunlight. You will be able to see the text and numbers clearly. To give you a bit durable solution LAVA further add a Asahi dragon-trail glass on it. It is durable and strong and give your phone a long lasting support. It does not catch scratches too soon. A 2MP fixed focus camera is placed on the top right side. This is good enough for video chat. The camera give you vga resolution. Not so good when you are in dark room. Sensors are placed on the same panel. A set of 3 capacitive buttons are placed at the bottom side. This are regular keys that give you access to menu, home and back button. Being a backlit keys you can also use them in the night. LAVA Iris 504Q+ also give you dual color led notification light.

It glows to blue when you have any messages and turns to red when you are charging the phone. At the side you can find volume rocker. Another great benefit of LAVA Iris 504Q+ is that it is not very thick. It is a shiny phone. A few set of keys are nicely placed on the side to give you easy accessibility. There is a micro usb slot at the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack on the top side. Pone finish is quiet nice on the backside. You have a 10MP camera with speakers. Inside there are two sim slot which supports 3G. This are not regular slots. One is mini and other one is micro. You can add the flip cover on the phone to protect the screen and back finish.

Re: Lava Iris 504Q+ Smartphone Review

    Operating System and UI:

LAVA Iris 504Q+ comes loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. As per the hardware Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), 1GB RAM and Mali 400 GPU this mobile can run the latest Android Kitkat Os also. But there is no news about that. Jellybean ROM comes loaded with most of the stock features and U I. There are no special changes here. There are few handful of apps like that are not very impressive. Multi-tasking is good due to good ram and cpu support. You can simply modify the gesture through settings. This are all Jellybean feature. You can take instantly images, take screenshots, etc. There is nothing special in the touch.

The benefit here is that you have a 8GB storage in the phone. So that you can add a few nice videos and applications. And if you want more you can extend the same by installing a memory card. I really enjoy using different app on the phone. That is because of good screen and output. It does not lag or free from any corner. But for gaming it is not so great. Things remains limited here. 8GB internal storage offer you around 5GB user space and other remain locked by the factory OS. 1GB ram is good here. Because it allow you to smoothly run different applications instantly.

    Camera Quality:

LAVA Iris 504Q+ has an average camera quality. it comes with dual camera support. A 10mp primary camera powered by Sony Exmor RS BSI allow you to take more detailed and amazing photos. The phone runs on a quad core cpu. Which is good enough to take instant photos. Image processing is quiet fast and quality is also nice here. This time the camera app comes with a new UI making it more useful that before. Through the app you can instantly modify the camera shutter, you can start video recording or choose different models. You can install switch to find camera. That brings a new QR option. Through which you can simply start a app through qr code. I am still not able to figure the exact benefit of this feature.

Taking about instant mode, the phone camera comes with many options like face beauty, iso, timer, etc. You can select them quiet fast from the screen. There is nothing special in the settings. You can modify the screen pixel, change resolution and do other changes through it. You can also operate the camera through your voice commands. The benefit is having a nice Sony Exmor RS BSI sensor which makes the image very nice. You can take detail photos when you are outdoor. But when you are in low light, the led flash help very less. Images will be noisy. LAVA Iris 504Q+ camera is quiet nice for taking macro shots. You can take some great hdr photos also through it. You can record videos at 1080p full hd resolution.

    Multimedia, Gaming & Battery:

I am not quite happy with the device UI. It looks very basic has a few option to customize. For multimedia the default audio and video player is good enough to run all kind of multimedia files. Sound quality is quiet nice on headphone. You can add various audio/video player from Google play if you face any issue with any specific audio format. The bundled headphone are quiet average but not great. You must get a good phone if you are expecting more better audio output. FM radio app help you to tune into latest channels. The loud speaker is located on the backside. This speaker is capable of producing nice audio quality. You can listen to your favorite songs.

The phone has a speaker direct on the backside. When you place it on the tablet audio is blocked. Overall performance of LAVA Iris 504Q+ is good. No apps lags on it. You can run different application at the same time and also play few nice game. Mali 400 GPU might not be the latest one but nice enough to run various games. I am quiet doubtful about hd games here. The device run on 2000mAh battery. The battery works well for the entire day even your gps and wifi is one. It is decent. But when you are playing games or watching too many videos you don't get any better output. You can have a bit benefit here by using power saver application. It will optimize your phone battery output more.

At a price of Rs.13000 LAVA Iris 504Q+ is a good choice. This phone is decent in terms of overall output and this model is also quiet competitive with others. 5inch HD display and a nice 10MP camera powered by Sony sensor are two big points here. After comparing a few phone that fall in the same range, I am quite sure that LAVA Iris 504Q+ is better than them. That is because of good body design, durable feature and performance. It gives you a composite features of camera and photography with bit of gaming also. The battery works well for the entire day if use wisely.
