Sony Xperia Z1 Compact - Rooting and installing Custom Recovery

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is one of the best Smartphone for photography. This devices come loaded with a whooping 20.7 megapixel camera. It is gives you great image output and video recording features. The devices features a 4.3inch screen, ideal for gaming and multimedia. It is powered by 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 Quad Core Processor, 2 GB RAM and Adreno 330. It also provide you 16GB internal storage. It is designed for all round purpose. If you need a camera phone but also with that good gaming performance then this mobile is the best choice.

I will show you a simple way of rooting this phone. And also installing custom rom. Rooting gives you a full rom access where you can do anything. You can just make your device work better. And above that you can install Custom rom to add extra features. remember that this thing carry their own risk. Wrong methods can cause brick phone and also avoid warranty. So let's move ahead with simple rooting and custom recovery process.

    Pre-Requirements:

    • Remember that when you go ahead with rooting stuff your phone will lose the official warranty. And it will also not receive any online OTA updates. You have to pay charge when you take the phone to repair.
    • Rooting carries certain risk. You have to read my process properly and download exactly those files which are mentioned. Do not attempt to flash any other files. Steps and files which are mentioned below are only for Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. This will not work on any other model.
    • You have to update the latest Xperia Z1 Compact USB drivers on your pc. If you are unable to find the drivers then you can just install Sony PC Companion.
    • You have to unlock the phone's bootloader first before moving ahead. Unlocked bootloader allow you to backup and install different custom roms. If you dont know how to unlock bootloader, check the instructions provided at Sony's official website.
    • Install Android SDK on your system. you can download files from the official site. This will help to initiate rooting procedure.
    • Go in Settings > Developer option and enable usb debugging.
    • Do not attempt to go ahead unless your device is fully charged.
    • Download DooMLoRD’s Custom Kernel for Z1 Compact & SuperUser Zip File.

Re: Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Rooting and installing Custom Recovery

    Installation Process:

    • Move the above two download files in the Platform folder. You can find that in Android SKD folder. Make sure the name of these two files is as follows: Z1c_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW.img & UPDATE-SuperSU-vx.xx.zip. Keep them in the root directly so that you can locate it easily. This will be done on your pc.
    • We will now boot the phone in fastboot mode. For that switch it off first and then hold the volume up key + power. Once the device is in fastboot mode connect it with your pc.
    • There are certain commands that you have to pass in cmd. So launch cmd. And navigate to the Android SDK folder. The easiest way is going inside the folder and holding shift + right mouse click. You can see a option open command window here.
    • Type fastboot flash boot Z1c_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW.img and hit enter. This will start the flashing process. Let the process complete.
    • Once done you have to type fastboot reboot and hit enter.
    • The mobile phone will not restart. CWM is not installed on your device and it is also rooted. The next step is to root.
    • Reboot your phone back in CWM by holding up the Volume up + power. Choose the super su.zip file. The process will start. Once done turn off your phone.
    • Restart it once again. The device is not rooted and it also has CWM recovery. You can enjoy various custom rom on it.
