    Nokia Asha 502 Smartphone Review

Nokia 502, Most effective phone designed by Nokia especially for those who love to be connected to social network or engaged in chat messenger all time. Nokia’s new phone Asha 502 is phone packed with many social networking app like Whats app, Line, WeChat, Facebook etc.Nokia is not leaving any portion of the market to conquer, they have high-end phones to low-end phones and now they have come up with basic touch phone with almost all features.

Nokia 502 have very simple interface and is easy to handle for which Nokia is well-known. Nokia captured market with its user-friendly OS and Nokia is continuing its tradition ahead. Price of the phone will surprise you as it is priced around 5,700 rupees that is quite cheap and affordable. Nokia launched its Nokia 501 earlier and may be due to the huge success of this phone they have come up with next installment of Nokia 502 with lot more features added and more reliable OS. But before that, let's have a quick look at Nokia Asha 502 highlights:

    • Nokia Asha software platform v1.1 with Swipe UI
    • 3.0 inch QVGA 320 x 240 pixels display
    • Dual SIM with dual standby
    • 5 Megapixel rear camera with LED Flash
    • 2G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n , Bluetooth 3.0 with SLAM and FM Radio
    • 64MB RAM
    • 64MB built-in storage memory, expandable upto 32GB using microSD card
    • 1110 mAh battery

    Design and Packaging:

Nokia Asha 502 is small phone available in the market, featuring dimensions of 99.6 x 59.5 x 11.1mm. Nokia does not change its design much and so they placed same design of Nokia 501 but with some changes in back cover which is made by transparent plastic. Front of the phone is also covered with the transparent plastic body so overall phone looks translucent with glossy finish. Grip of the phone in hand is fine and feels good to hold. No other difference will be noticed in new Nokia 502 compared to Nokia 501.

When you see from the back it will let you recall the Lumia series phone as the back of the phone is inspired by Lumia series model. Phone has sharp edge and pointed at corners which gives a feeling of perfect cuboid. Body has slight curve which is felt when you hold the phone in hand. Like Lumia 620, this phone also has back cover which extends to the side of the phone as well. If you need to remove back of the Nokia 502, you need to push the Nokia logo and cover can be easily pulled out.

Nokia 502 has 3 inch display and below display you can see capacitive back key and is the only key present below the screen. There is no front camera so upper screen only has earpiece and back of the phone has camera accompanied by LED flash. Upper edge of the phone has 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port and bottom of the phone has microphone pinhole. Side of the phone is extended with back cover and right side consists of Power/lock button followed by Volume rocker keys keeping the left side plane.

    Display / Screen:

You will find no eye-catching updates in display section of Nokia 502 as it has same display like Nokia 501. Screen of the phone is 3-inch TFT display which houses a resolution of QVGA i.e. 320x240pixels and display packs with only 256k colors and 133ppi pixel density which says all for the display feature. We can say that this phone from Nokia has just average display features and far behind if we compare to same range in other Android phones in the market.

Display supports multi-finger touch on paper but it can read the touch only of two fingers. Display of the phone responds poor under sunlight which is due to low resolution and low pixel density. Touch response of the phone is good but some of the touch goes ignored which can be the result of two-finger touch feature. Screen of the phone is small and when the keyboard is up it feels that screen is crammed and no space left. Phone is filled with social networking apps but small screen leads to a feel of congestion. Overall it can be called an average display and considering its cost its welcoming.

    Hardware and Performance:

Phone is said to be the entry-level phone but is packed with serious hardware of 1.1GHz processor which will take care of all your social networking apps easily. RAM of 64MB is expected to handle all the task and instruction given by user however it’s a big reason to worrybecause 64MB will not take care of long operation on this phone and may result in slow performance. Phone has low inbuilt storage of 512MB which is below the standard of today’s ongoing storage capacity in phone. Nokia has provided facility to enhance your memory with the help of memory card and you can insert memory of 32GB on your phone.

Nokia 502 is running on Asha OS 1.1 version which consumes less resource and so it runs perfectly with this minimal RAM. Asha 502 rarely hangs while performing heavy task on it, surely it takes time to process but does the job quite well. You can see that even in high-end phone, when we multitask between apps it freezes. Apps which come inbuilt are outdated apps so need to be updated first before using.Outdated apps are not useful and do not work unless you update that app. If you are heavy browser then you do not choose this phone as this phone do not perform up to the mark as browser struggles with the website compatible view and takes time to load even you are in 3G network support.

So for an average phone user this phone will be the best option to go with, else take some time and give it a re-thought.Phone is provided with Nokia Express browser to browse conveniently on your Nokia 502 phone.Nokia Asha 502 supports 3G network also, which was missing in Asha 501 phone.

Powerful camera will be the USP for Nokia 502 as it is given by 5MP camera with LED flash. Phone has good camera and flash to assist you for capturing picture in low light as well. Nokia provides good camera in its phone but this phone do not posses Carl Zeis lens which is found in most of the Nokia phones. Camera is given with different settings to get a perfect click to save as memories. You can adjust settings for flash and white balance. You have ample of effect option which lets you to take photo in different modes like black and white, sepia and other modes. Picture comes bright under good light conditions but low light is noisy. You can capture video from 5MP camera of Nokia 502 but clarity of the video is poor, phone has no front camera to make video call and video chat. Though some adjustments are made in the hardware part to control cost, 5MP camera is good for an entry level phone.

    Operating System and UI:

Nokia 502 is running on Asha OS 1.1 and which is made to consume less resource to run effectively. UI of the phone is very simple and do not support much customization so only change you can make is get wallpaper refreshed with new one. Asha 1.1 OS also introduced swipe down features to see the notifications of the phone.

You can customize the toggles already present in the notification bar and set according to your convenience. There are many lock features to protect your phone from unwanted eyes. OS and UI of the phone are very simple and some of features are inspired by Windows phone.

Re: Nokia Asha 502 Smartphone Review

Battery of the phone is fine since it handles phone pretty well and stay all day long. Phone possess 1010mAh battery which is adequate for this phone as single charge of the phone stands for atleast two days with normal operation and with heavy operation it stays for a day. Battery is removable and below battery lays Dual-SIM slot. With two SIM active in the phone the battery backup remained strong and stayed for long time.

if we consider display and performance the phone stands at an average level.Built of the phone is pretty good and so is the battery backup of the phone. Also the phone can be considered for its camera and social app features. The bad side of the phone is its RAM. It has a really poor RAM which can be a slight issue for heavy users. Considering the price of this phone Nokia has provided very less features while you can get much more in the same price from other brands.
