With Windows 8, Microsoft introduced a new feature called as “Hybrid Shutdown”. How does it works? Well, it actually hibernates the kernel session rather than killing it completely which results in reduced total startup time. You might have noticed less Windows loading time overall, this is because of this Hybrid Shutdown” as you know resuming from hibernation takes very less time compared to complete boot up.

Although it is a good feature but it also comes with few problems. There are many people around the world who have reported issues with boot up, restart or shutting the Windows 8 or 8.1. So, if you are also one of those users facing this problem, you can fix it by simple turning off the Hybrid Shutdown. In case you dont know how to turn it off, simple follow these steps and get it done now:

  • Start by searching "Power" settings and click on 'Change what the power buttons do' as shown in the image below:

  • Alternatively press Win+R key and type "powercfg.cpl" without quotes in the Run Box.
  • In the opened dialogue box, scroll down and you will find an option called 'Turn on fast startup (recommended)'. Uncheck the box and click on 'Save Changes'.

Now restart the system and you are done. Hopefully you should not face any more problem with shutdown or restart.
